A FOUR wheel drive towing a camper trailer rolled on the Princes Highway east of Stratford on Sunday afternoon.

Three passengers, including a seven-month-old baby, escaped injury.

Police said there was a failure of a weld on the tow hitch, causing it to sway uncontrollably.

They recommended drivers should always check the integrity of tow hitches and trailer wheels.

They added drivers should pay as much attention to what they were towing as to what was towing it, and that an annual check-up was a must for any sort of trailer.

Rust could set in over time, damaging bearings, among other parts.


When getting a trailer checked by an expert, police recommended asking that extra attention be paid on the coupling and tow hitch.

Drivers should also always pay close attention to the tow ball weight.
