Spoke to Officer Wayne
Kerri Brice says she feels like she's living a nightmare that she can't wake up from.
Her husband, Arthur, a Buena Park police officer died while driving home from work in Corona on Saturday.
"It's like I'm watching my life as a movie and it's like not real to me and I think he's going to come in the door at any minute," she said. "It's really hard to accept this."
Arthur, 58, was a bear of a man at 6 foot 7, but was a sweetheart with the biggest heart, his wife said.
The father of four was a gentle giant who devoted his life to public service. The Army veteran spent years as an EMT and even delivered four babies during his career.
But for the past 20 years he was a police officer, serving cities such as Riverside, Placentia and a reserve officer for Buena Park for the past decade.
"I think he always wanted to be a police officer," said his son, Kevin.

Arthur was killed after working an overnight shift. A semi truck trailer detached on the eastbound 91 Freeway just past the 15 interchange.
He couldn't stop in time, or get out of the way, his wife said.
"He was an amazing driver," said his wife, who set up a gofundme site. "If he couldn't pull out of it or turn then there was a reason for that. You just don't know that it's the last time you are ever going to kiss your spouse."

The crash took place at about 5 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near South Promenade Avenue. At that time, Clifton Darling was driving a 2014 Volvo tractor-trailer with two trailers in tow. One of them became detached in the Number 2 lane of the bustling freeway. Darling pulled over to the right shoulder and contacted the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Brice, 58, collided with the rear of the disabled trailer, spinning to the right, before hitting a 2011 Volvo semi-truck operated by Ernesto Villasen. Brice was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by first responders. He was rushed to Riverside Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:15 a.m.
In a touching scene, a procession carrying Brice’s body departed the hospital for the Riverside County Coroner’s Office in Perris at about noon. Brice was assigned to Buena Park Police Department’s gang unit and patrol and was a member of the Color Guard. He was remembered by his peers and family as a genuine, caring and uplifting person.
Brice, a U.S. Army veteran, is survived by his wife, Kerri, two teenage stepchildren, his ex-wife and his son, daughter, and grandchildren. Brice worked for the Buena Park Police Department for 11 years and was traveling home to Moreno Valley at the time of the crash.
The CHP is investigating the accident.
FATAL TRACTOR-TRAILER HITCH FAILURE INVESTIGATION
When a tractor-trailer hitch fails, the results can be catastrophic, which was illustrated in this tragic crash.
Many of these accidents are caused by improper installation, defective design and/or driver inexperience. Motorists and manufacturers can be held liable when a motorist is injured or killed when a hitch fails. Some common causes of hitch malfunctions include, improper loading or overloading of cargo, speeding, defective brakes, a rusted hitch, a defect in the hitch and a driver’s failure to install safety chains properly.
Candice Bond, an experienced California tractor-trailer crash attorney, said in cases such as this it's imperative to have an independent investigation conducted in a timely manner to protect a victim’s rights.
“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex and many factors can play a role in these types of accidents,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Sanchez-Gordon. “A skilled attorney can protect victims from trucking companies, which often send their own investigators to crash sites and possess a variety of resources they can utilize in an attempt to defend a negligent truck driver. Your lawyer can advocate for you by hiring expert witnesses, conducting drivers’ background checks, locating witnesses to the crash and reviewing applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding a victim through the legal process.”
CALIFORNIA WRONGFUL DEATH ATTORNEY
Pending the investigation, the family of Arthur Brice may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this tragic incident.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident. We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected,” added Bond.
