Three injured in Route 88 rollover crash after construction trailer comes loose

Westport police said Wednesday that a small construction trailer came loose on Route 88 and struck a Jeep, which rolled over approximately five times.

Two women and a man were transported to Rhode Island Hospital.The Jaws of Life had to be employed by the Westport Fire Department to get the injured parties out of the vehicle.

According to investigators, a construction crew with an arrow board trailer were attempting to get off the highway heading north when the trailer came free.

That’s when authorities say it hit the Jeep, which was traveling south. The vehicle lost control and rolled nearly five times, according to what witnesses told police.

The highway was closed in both directions for nearly 90 minutes.

The Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit was asked to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
