SHAMOKIN — The 10-year-old boy injured after being run over by a parade float Friday remained in critical condition Saturday morning at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, according to a nursing supervisor.
The boy was walking beside a float for the Mother Cabrini youth baseball team along the Anthracite Heritage Festival parade route on West Independence Street, near CVS Pharmacy, shortly before 6:15 p.m. Friday when the accident occurred.
"His foot got caught under the tire. It sounds like it pulled him under the trailer," said Chief Darwin Tobias III.
The accident occurred in front of hundreds of bystanders, many shocked and shaken by witnessing the incident. Emergency personnel responded immediately as well as some medical personnel in the crowd, Tobias said.
“Unfortunately, it was an accident. I pray that he’s OK,” Tobias said.
Patrolman Brandon Cohick is investigating.
