Details are in on a crash last Friday night involving a hayride.
The crash happened northwest of Effingham on West Evergreen Road near the intersection with 1100th Street just before 8pm.
The Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports a vehicle driven by 64-year-old Catherine Field of Effingham struck a tractor pulling two trailers driven by 55-year-old Dennis Pike of Effingham.
The impact caused two passengers on the front wagon, 33-year-old Valerie Pike and four-year-old Isaac Pike, both of Effingham, to be thrown off the wagon. Valerie Pike told us in a phone coversation that she was run over by the second wagon.
Both Valerie and Isaac were injured and were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Field was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
Questions: Why was a slow moving trailer with no lights on a highway?
Who had a permit to have this activity?
What safety standards?
