A Kansas man whose trailer detached from his pickup while crossing a railroad died after he was hit by a train.
David W. Miller, 58, of Maple Hill, was pulling a trailer with his 2017 Ford F-150 across railroad tracks in Wabaunsee County when the trailer became detached at around 6 p.m. Friday, a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report states. Miller then got out of the pickup to try to rehitch the trailer.
Miller tried to get back into the pickup when a Union Pacific train came around a curve, but the locomotive hit him and the vehicle, the report states. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither the 41-year-old train engineer from Manhattan nor the 32-year-old conductor from Herington were injured.
