The hearing for Simon Eugene Gigee, 43, of Westfield, originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, was continued for up to 30 days until the commonwealth can make contact with their primary witness. Gigee is charged with two counts of accidents involving death or personal injury, one a felony in the death of Rhonda Fromm, 34 at the time, and one a misdemeanor for the injuries to her husband, Michael, 38 at the time. According to a state police affidavit, the car Rhonda was driving along Route 287 on Oct. 27, 2006, was hit head-on by a homemade trailer that became unhitched from a pickup truck. According to police, the trailer reportedly had no current registration and was reportedly stolen from Stages in Tioga between Oct. 8 and Oct. 11, 2006. Police allege Gigee was driving the truck, which reportedly did not stop.
Repard granted the continuance to the commonwealth, and lowered Gigee’s bail to $50,000. He was taken back to Tioga County Prison, and Gigee’s family told the Gazette they were working on posting the bail, which can be property collateral. The hearing has not been rescheduled yet.
